Time, wine, and companionship

This holiday season, we wish you moments of calm, mindful toasts, and sincere gatherings.

As the year comes to an end, we at Munt Roca would like to share a few words of gratitude and reflection. It has been an intense year, marked by a very fine and productive harvest, made possible thanks to the late winter and spring rains, and the result of constant work in the vineyard, the commitment of our team, and a deep respect for a truly unique land: the Priorat.

We are living in complex times. The global context is challenging, and the wine sector is no exception: consumption has declined and the challenges are evident. Nevertheless, we firmly believe that wine, understood through the lens of culture and moderation, continues to hold an essential place in our society.

We wish to reaffirm a clear and responsible message: drinking in moderation is a fundamental part of enjoyment. Wine is not about excess; it is a ritual. It is the bottle opened to accompany a family meal, the glass shared among friends, the conversation that lingers around the table. It is quality time, it is connection, it is memory.

At this special time of year, this ritual is enriched by traditional Catalan cuisine, created to be shared and celebrated: Sant Esteve cannelloni, roasted meats, slow-cooked stews, escudella, and long, unhurried gatherings around the table. Honest dishes, full of history, that find in our wines a natural companion, enhancing flavors and accompanying each moment with balance and respect for the table.

At Munt Roca, we continue moving forward with determination and hope. We do not give up. We keep working with enthusiasm because we deeply love what we do and the Priorat: its demanding terroir, its deeply rooted culture, and its unmistakable landscape. Every wine we produce is born from respect for this land and from the desire to convey its identity beyond our borders, carrying it, symbolically, to the farthest corners of the world.

This holiday season, we wish you moments of calm, mindful toasts, and sincere gatherings. Thank you for being with us, for trusting in our work, and for being part of this shared journey.

As always, the doors of Buil Giné are open. We look forward to welcoming you for a tasting, hosting you at our hotel, or sharing a meal together at our restaurant, and to continuing to celebrate the Priorat as we know best: our way of life, with time, wine, and companionship.

We wish you a very happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year.

The Renaissance of White Wine · Elegance, Freshness, and Authenticity

In recent years, white wines have stepped out of the shadow of reds to claim their own spotlight. Wine lovers around the world are increasingly drawn to their depth, structure, and ability to express terroir. In this new landscape, Munt Roca White 2017, a white Priorat wine, stands as a testament to the elegance and complexity that this historic region can achieve beyond its celebrated reds.

For many years, white wine was seen as a light, easy companion—ideal for summer days or casual occasions. But over the past decade, its role has changed dramatically. Today, white wine is living a true renaissance: both consumers and professionals are rediscovering it as a category of complexity, character, and remarkable ageing potential.

New Consumers, New Sensibilities

Modern wine drinkers seek wines that tell a story and express a sense of place, beyond color or style. Whites with terroir identity, crafted from native varieties and precise winemaking, are captivating both newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts. Transparency, purity, and minerality are now prized qualities—elements that allow the soil and climate to speak clearly through the wine.

Climate Change and New Styles

Climate change has also played a role in this shift. Regions once known exclusively for powerful reds are now discovering that producing structured, fresh white wines is not only possible but also increasingly relevant. These wines offer balance, tension, and elegance—qualities that align perfectly with today’s lighter, more diverse gastronomy and global taste trends.

Versatility at the Table and Through Time

White wine is no longer limited to seafood or aperitifs. Age-worthy whites with texture, volume, and depth—such as Garnacha Blanca from Priorat—can accompany everything from white meats to spiced or Asian-inspired dishes. The growing interest in cellar-worthy whites shows that longevity and complexity are not the exclusive domain of red wines.

A New Language of Wine

Today, white wine embodies modern elegance—a symbol of freshness, balance, and authenticity. In every glass, there is a dialogue between terroir, variety, and time.
More than a trend, it marks a natural evolution in wine culture: a search for the light within the wine, and a way of seeing the landscape from a new perspective.

Munt Roca White 2017 · The Luminous Maturity of Priorat

The Expression of Place

Crafted from vines between 20 and 70 years old, Munt Roca White 2017 originates from the Munt Roca estate, located in El Lloar, in the southwestern part of the Priorat D.O.Ca. The vineyards lie between 350 and 370 meters above sea level, where the region’s iconic llicorella slate—a Carboniferous soil type—is covered by a fine layer of limestone and sediment.
This geological tension between heat and freshness, between stone and light, defines the wine’s mineral precision. The old vines, deeply rooted in the fractured soil, draw concentration, salinity, and purity from the rock itself—hallmarks of authentic Priorat terroir.

The Art of the Blend

This vintage combines 80% Garnacha Blanca (White Grenache) and 20% Pedro Ximénez, two varieties that complement each other with remarkable harmony. The white grenache brings structure, texture, and a creamy mouthfeel reminiscent of age-worthy whites, while the Pedro Ximénez contributes ripe fruit, volume, and a subtle natural sweetness that balances the wine’s mineral tension.
The result is a complex and elegant Spanish white wine, showcasing both the depth of its origin and the grace of its evolution over time.

Perfectly integrated acidity sustains a long, elegant finish with echoes of dried fruits and a persistent mineral salinity that lingers endlessly.

Sensory Tasting

Appearance: Golden hues with delicate amber reflections reveal its maturity and noble ageing.
Aroma: The bouquet unfolds with layers of peach skin, toasted almond, dried flowers, and rosemary honey, supported by notes of warm stone after rain. As it opens, the wine reveals hints of beeswax, saline nuances, and subtle marine undertones, a reminder of its mineral roots.
Palate: On the palate, it is broad, enveloping, and tactile—its texture reminiscent of sun-warmed slate. Perfectly integrated acidity sustains a long, elegant finish with echoes of dried fruits and a persistent mineral salinity that lingers endlessly.

A White That Endures

Munt Roca White 2017 demonstrates that Priorat speaks not only in reds but also whispers in white, revealing another facet of its landscape—the light born from the rock.
A wine for ageing, reflection, and quiet conversation. A white with the soul of Priorat, destined to endure.

After the Harvest: The Vineyard’s Serenity

After the intensity and emotion of the harvest, a different time arrives at Munt Roca. The vines, which for months gave all their energy to the fruit, now breathe in calm. It is the moment when the soil regains its balance and the plant begins its rest, preparing for the new cycle to come.

The landscape of Priorat transforms: leaves begin to change color, the air turns cooler, and the llicorella soils preserve the memory of the season’s effort. We observe and accompany this fertile silence, inspecting each vine, assessing the condition of the roots, and ensuring that the plant retains the strength needed to face the winter.

It is a time for reflection, for listening to the vineyard and understanding what this vintage has taught us. In every corner of the Munt Roca estate, the nuances of the year remain engraved: the light, the rain, the wind, and the dedication of those who tend this land. And so begins, once again, the promise of the next harvest.

Architecture and Distinctive Features

The Handelsbeurs is a historic building located in the heart of Antwerp, with origins dating back to the 16th century, during the city’s Golden Age.

Built in neo-Gothic style, it features ornate details, glass, and iron — characteristic elements of the 19th century that reflect the grandeur of the period. Its central courtyard remains one of its most striking features: a monumental interior space surrounded by galleries, high ceilings, and intricate decorative details.

The building endured two devastating fires, one in 1583 and another in 1858. Following the latter, the current neo-Gothic structure was completed and inaugurated in 1872. It ceased operating as a stock exchange in 1997, when financial activities moved to Brussels, leaving the building unused for several years.

Today, the Handelsbeurs serves as a multifunctional venue, hosting events, conferences, gala dinners, product presentations, and both large and small gatherings. It can accommodate up to 1,200–1,600 guests for receptions and offers multiple breakout rooms for smaller sessions. The Fiera restaurant, located in the adjacent Schippersbeurs, provides international cuisine in a cosmopolitan atmosphere, while the nearby Sapphire House Antwerp, a luxury hotel directly connected to the venue, complements the experience.

The Handelsbeurs stands as a powerful symbol of Antwerp’s heritage, deeply tied to the city’s economic, cultural, and commercial history. Its restoration represents a visionary effort to connect the past with contemporary purpose — ensuring that heritage remains not only ornamental, but also socially, culturally, and economically relevant.
